A freezer in the garage can be a nice addition to meat-loving families
After tagging the elk and having it cut up just the way your family
likes it, finding a proper storage place is key. A detached freezer in
the garage might be one of the best options for hunters, as well as
families who like to store food for more than 30 days in a freezer.
"A detached freezer in the garage stays at a consistent temperature,
which is much better for keeping meat than the self-defrosting freezers
above refrigerators," says Dave Cook of Mountainland Design.
Self-defrosting mechanisms, most often found in freezers above or to
the side of a fridge, add heat to the freezer periodically to act as a
defroster.
This can cause meat, ice cream and bread to lose longevity.
"In general, you should only have enough stuff in your
refrigerator's freezer to rotate through on a monthly basis," Cook says.
