Using a variety of woods and textures is the latest trend in cabinetry
If the '80s and '90s were about uniform rows of kitchen cabinets, the
'00s have been all about irregular and rustic-looking cabinets.
Laurie Smith, owner of Maple Landing in Mapleton, says homeowners
have strayed from the traditional oak cabinets in recent years.
Instead, she says, homeowners are using more knotty alder or cherry
woods. In addition to the alternative hard woods, cabinets are being
installed with amazing custom finishes and paint colors.
"We've been doing a lot of knotty alder custom cabinets with a
distressed finish lately," Smith says. "People are also asking for
different paint colors."
Maple Landing has finished cabinets in blue, red, green, black,
white and many other colors.
"By finishing cabinets in different colors and in different styles,
it makes kitchens look like they've been around 100 years," Smith says.
"It makes kitchens more appealing to look at."
