Orem home went from angular and high-maintenance to soothing and easy
A change in landscaping can change the entire feel of a house. The
owners of this home in Orem were looking for a new landscape that had
1/3 the amount of grass, less maintenance and an updated look and feel.
"The new landscape took 11 calendar days - start to finish - after
we got the bid and it has given the homeowners a renewal on their
souls," says Mickay Robinson, owner of Mountain Mist Landscaping.
Changes to the landscape included:
- A new overall design and layout of the front yard.
- Replacing existing bluegrass with a dwarf fescue. Dwarf fescue is
a hybrid that requires less water and less mowing.
"The dwarf fescue feels like the bluegrass but grows slower and
requires much less water and much less maintenance," Robinson says.
Robinson estimates that the dwarf fescue requires mowing half as
often as bluegrass and can be maintained in the summer months by
watering twice a week for 30 minutes.
- Rearranging sprinklers to meet new needs of the yard. This made
the area more functional.
- Creating rounded edges to flower beds and walkways. The rounded
edges made the front yard more inviting to spend time in.
- Updating foliage. The homeowners wanted a tree to shade the front
door and foliage that allowed for a nice landscape regardless of the
season of the year.
